So, these arrived today in the mail. Yes, yes, I know—I’ve been a little earring obsessed lately. Not without good reason, however. Last week, I thought I’d lost one of my favorite earrings while out thrifting (turns out it came off in the bathroom and fell into the laundry basket with a sweater.) on the very same day I discovered Sulu-Designs. Fate, I ask you?
Susan was featuring this lovely pair of earrings inspired by her bathroom tile and door in her, wait for it, Astoria home. Astoria, NY. I live in Astoria! I have a bathroom with tile! I love old glass doorknobs! Come on, clearly this was the Universe talking to me! Besides, it was love at first sight!
Except, by the time I logged into her etsy store, some other girl, with bathroom tile who just happens to love old doors, had scooped them up. I must say, that girl has taste!
In a very odd, only in the blogsphere, turn of events I made an off handed comment on Kat’s lovely site about missing out on these meant for me earrings. The same Kat who had introduced me to Sulu. Before I knew it, Susan was emailing me with the offer to make up a pair of these Astoria door tile earrings just for little ol’ me. Oh, the joy!
I have to tell you, these were so beautifully wrapped, that I almost didn’t want to open the package despite knowing the contents. Don’t you just love it when the outside matches the inside? I like finding that in people too–and I have to say, Susan of Sulu-Designs is simply wonderful throughout!

Love the earrings, but I’m really coveting that wrapping paper. Darn good taste!
I played hookey from work today (hope the powers that be aren’t reading this!) and had a long list of (fun) things to do around the house. I took a couple of naps instead…

I hope your powers to be aren’t reading this either!รย And you know, naps are the best choice usually! ~W
I’m happy I could help you reach earring nirvana ๐
Do you remember my comment via email saying I loved the white square ones but when I went to Susan’s store to get them, they were gone? This is them! Good to know that Susan is so accommodating… I might have to ask her to make a pair for me!
You have very good taste ๐

No, YOU have good taste! I think it would be cool if you had a pair like these. We’d have both coasts well represented! However, her work is so lovely, I know I’d have no problem finding another pair, or two, or three… wonder if Susan would be up for a trade. I best be selling something soon in Thrifty Goodness, I guess. ~W
I love Susan’s concept of drawing inspiration from what she sees around her, thanks so much for sharing the link. ๐

And some of her photographs are really lovely as well.รย I wonder what she’s using to shoot–because getting close ups on tiny stuff isรย proving to be challenging with my Nikon.รย Probably need a different lens, eh? ~W
The earrings are super cute! And they are named after you….THAT is cool.

Ah, well… it helps to commission them!รย You could have a Marie pair, too… just leave her a note!รย Yes, it is my mission in life to have all my readers/friends/family wearing Sulu designed earrings.รย Yep, yep! ~W
Oh I loooooove. I just bought these: http://images.etsy.com/all_images/4/491/293/il_fullxfull.6448509.jpg
And there are a few more pairs I’m eying there. Her project is amazing.

Thank you.รย And I should say, you can’t really go wrong with her “original intent” series, should you ever go shopping.รย Ahem. ๐ ~W
Wow. I’m blown away by your kind words and those of your comment-posters! I’m thrilled that you like the earrings, and I’m so glad that our blogs have brought us two Astoria girls together! I’m particularly happy that you take such great photos – you made the little package of sulu-design goods look so nice. By the way, I use a Sony Cybershot, with the macro setting for my jewelry pictures, and I’m completely pleased with it. Thanks for your sweet post!
