I’d like to think I can plan posts in advance, but it’s pointless to try. Usually, if I say I’m going to write on a certain subject matter the next day, you can rest assured that it won’t happen. I wish I could write posts for the next day in advance and the post them later. There are bloggers who do it, and I have to admit that it would cut down a lot of time if I wrote a week’s worth of posts and then date stamped them to publish each day. But, I just can’t bring myself to do it.
So, I end up making a promise to post on a subject soon and the appointed day comes to write on the subject I promised and I find my Muse has once again left me to get sloshed somewhere with a B list celebrity. At present, I have at least three outstanding post promises that I’ve not fulfilled. When I will get to them is anyone’s guess since my Muse has a bad habit of binge drinking for weeks. She also steals cash and claims the fabulous exploits of other stars in hopes of impressing you. Incorrigible!
What’s a girl to do on a Thursday when her Muse is MIA and she’s in a lurch for a post? She posts her Thrift finds, that’s what she does! Her readers are witty and savvy and extremely intelligent. But, pssst… they are also easily distracted by pretty pictures.
Yesterday’s debacle left me with a migraine I’m still trying to abate. It comes and goes. There didn’t seem to be any solution but to go thrifting (see, I need so little of an excuse.) I found these vintage napkins (6!) at a thrift store but didn’t buy them. I don’t know about you, but I have this sliding scale for what I will pay for things depending on where I buy them. Garage sale finds should be cheaper than Thrift store finds. Thrift store finds should be cheaper than Vintage store finds… you see the progression? So, yesterday I balked at paying vintage store prices for the napkins. But, after thinking about it I rushed back to the store this morning and scooped them up. Because, in the long run they were just too yummy to not have. I think they are handmade as they’ve never been used but are missing any sort of tags.
I couldn’t resist these lost souls. (Oh what I would do to have a matching set of the blue earring!) Despite missing their mates, these were just too beautiful to not take home. I figure there is something clever I can do with them! Any suggestions?
Speaking of suggestions. I found this little box made out of veneer. I’m not sure if it’s homemade or just home repaired, but it needs some TLC. I can’t decide what I want to do with it yet, so I’d love some suggestions. It needs to be covered somehow. What do you think? Paper? Fabric? Paint?
Regular programming will be back soon… I promise (cough). Just as soon as my Muse drags her sorry self home from whatever party she is at this time and sobers up a bit.
God, I hope she remembered to wear panties this time!
Your Muse sounds like quite the party girl. I bet she can down White Russians as if they were sodas…
I don’t mind looking at your thrifting finds though. It always gives me pause to wonder, “what’s next.” The box for example – I see it now and am ever so curious to see the “after”.
In any case, I think your technique to alleviate a migraine is novel. I can see the commercial now… “Just one Vintaj (Vintagious Recyclidine) will cure a migraine for 24 hours. Consult your doctor as side effects could include…”

My Muse is a skank. 😀 And I like my solution to migraines too! ~W
If I ever had a muse, she is gone! I do love photos in a post, and the napkins are wonderful. I am not crafty, so I have no suggestions for the box. I don’t know how that material would paint. I lean fabric.

Hmmm… good point on the paint. I’ll have to test a corner but I have feeling your are right about that! ~ W
What are you thinking??? When it comes time for you to move to Florida and leave the Boy Wonder on his own, you are going to find all these divorced earrings and wonder, “What was I thinking?” I know this is true because last year I had to get rid of 35 years worth of “great finds.” The good news is, now that I’ve made some space I can start all over again. What fun! The box??? I don’t know, Wende. I think it’s screaming for some 1970s contact paper.

I was thinking they’d be lovely added to some crafty thing I might. And my earrings aren’t divorced! They’re widowed. Man, I would have loved to have been at your estate sale. 😀 As for the contact paper… what are you smoking and is it legal and can I have some? Because that’s the only way I’m using 1970’s contact paper! 😀 ~W
For me, being in a store that sells fabric is like a being a junkie in a crackhouse. I LOVE your fabric. I would have bought those napkins too, to add to my fabric collection…BEAUTIFUL.

Well, that’s about a month’s worth of thrifting in that pile. I am with you, fabric stores are intoxicating! ~W
When my aunt died, her daughters turned her old costume jewelry and such into Christmas tree ornaments. They’re beautiful and meaningful. While those earrings may not have a ton of meaning, if you turn them into ornaments, you’ll remember thrifting for them whenever you put the ornaments up.

Hmm… that’s a thought. What a lovely way to remember someone, eh? ~W
OOOh I’m jealous of those napkins! The blue earring might be repurposed as a necklace.

I can’t believe I walked away from the napkins in the first place. As for the earring, I think you’re right. 😀 ~W
Your muse is having more fun than my muse.

There are WORDS for my muse! ~W
Those dangly earrings would make killer window charms! Just get some clear fishing line and hang them from a window that gets lots of sun…you may even get those to throw rainbows across the floor 🙂
I’d do a collage on the box using comic book pages (or print outs of comic book pages).
Great finds! 🙂 I’m working on a post to pimp the Bag Bag out right now…and I’m emailing you in a bit!

Oh, he’s thrilled! He has a post on his site (GEIODO on my blog roll) telling people he is selling them. He’s excited to have a first customer. Thanks again, Bug. You’re not only getting a coolio bag, but you are making a 10 year old’s dream of having his own business come true. And we loved the name, “Bag Bag” so much we are keeping it! :D ~W
Hey ~ I saw those napkins at our local thrift shop and seriously contemplated bringing them home! I’m glad YOU actually did it.
Had a great time hooting and hollering with you all last night. As promised I have added your link. Yeah me!

LOL… that’s funny. I often wonder about the finds I decide not to take home… and where they eventually end up. And THANK YOU for the link. And last night was such a blast, I like your idea of having a little monthly get together. 😀 ~W
the earrings could easily become ribbon chokers a la 50’s house wife night on the town.
the box? Dec-Ou-Pauge. Get a bottle of modpodge and some papers you have been saving but you have no idea what to do with, and hit it like you live.
I think I saw your muse. She needs bail money but is too embarassed to call you.

I love the choker idea… perfect! And I think I have decided to go the modpodge way. However, I’m going to have to work on the “paper” thing… my stash is pitifully low! ~W
