On this first Sunday of Advent we light candles in Hope for the light that is coming. However, here on the northern most coast of Oregon, we are lighting candles for more practical reasons today. It is 2:30 pm and my power is back up… but probably not for very long. We are in the midst of an amazing storm. We won’t face the real brunt of it until tomorrow, most likely—so, there is a very good chance power will be fleeting.
If you’re lighting candles today, please keep our power workers in your thoughts and prayers as you do. They are brave people to face these winds in the attempt to keep us all warm. My thoughts go out to all of you who might be without power as well. We are holding warm thoughts for you. May you feel the warmth of our thoughts. . . may you see the light of hope in every flicker of every flame.
I will be back soon.
It’s 9:30 pm now and we haven’t lost power all day, I find it pretty peculiar….
Stay safe and warm my friend.
we lost a numerous amount of shingles from our roof and the telephone line next door looks like it’s inviting us to a game of Jump Rope. but we haven’t lost power yet.
hope you and yours stay safe, warm and well-lit.
🙂
I thought about you and all my PNW friends when I saw the weather report. Batten down the hatches!
I’m a weather data junkie and have a son living in Eugene and a close friend in Portland, so I’ve been watching the reports from down here in nearly summery Berkeley. Wow — the wind really is as strong as it was forecast; I see gusts up to 85 mph at Astoria airport. Hope you and yours are weathering it all OK.
We got torrential rains and a bit of wind, but minor compared to that. Stay warm and safe, dear Wende!
OH yes!! My uncle is a head power guy, and since he can fix power issues in a jiffy and is slim and trim he has to do climbing and other risky things.. and he is always on call on every holiday…. I know first hand what those poor guys go through!!! Candles can be fun and beautiful.. .How did they do it pre-electricity???
Thinking about you and Kathleen and hoping all is well?!?

Hey girlie, I hope you’re all ok there. I just talked to M and she told me about all the damage in town! My goodness! I hope you have/get power and stay warm and safe. I’ll be thinking about you!
