The weather is clued into the calender around these parts. Yesterday’s turn of the season brought appropriate weather. It’s clear and sunny and crisp. Sweater weather. We actually turned on the heat for the first time in months and I’m pretty sure I smelled a stoked up fireplace when I walked Sophie last night.
The change in seasons also means our annual trek home. I’m busily attempting to right the wrong in our house before we leave. And my bedroom… is so wrong. Yesterday I managed to unearth the floor in our space while simultaneously creating small land-mines crafted of laundry baskets. Everything is sorted and tomorrow will put my washer and dryer into continual use. This much I abhor about traveling: it always seems to have laundry bookends.
There is always so much to do before we leave. I get a bit manic, I think, trying to accomplish it all. There is something about traveling that makes me want everything “just so” before we embark. The proverbial list has lists–items that will never be crossed off, even if I had started last week. I think I’ll add a few items I’ve actually finished just to make myself feel better.
Today, though, I took an opportunity to stop and do some art with the boy. Despite the packing and the laundry and the excessive errand running that is left to do!ΓΒ We’ve yet to decide how we’ll use the finished project. But the making of these sun-prints seemed a fitting way to wish our Warm Friend safe travel to the other hemisphere.
Now, it’s time to take down the bunting, pack up the picnic tablecloths, and rake a few leaves. Pull a few weeds. Buy one last bouquet of Dahlias. While I’m busily packing summer skirts into my suitcase, I’m pulling out fuzzy sweaters and closing up windows. We will return to Autumn in full swing.
But first, one last dose of sunshine on the golden coast. We plan to accompany our Warm Friend on her journey south. . . at least part of the way.
Wow, the weather did change – almost in an instant! I’m wearing shorts today in honor of the warm weather that was (what there was of it) and in hope of the warm weather to be when we go home.
I guess it is 81 today in Anaheim and promising to be that way during our stay. It is a cooler 69 in SB but looks to be in the mid 70’s by the time we get there!
Anyway, I like the project you are working on with the boy… looks like fun. Oh, and don’t worry too much about your lists… our place is in surprisingly good condition (all the guests last week helped) so I don’t think leaving will be too painful this go round…

Baby, have you seen my space? While I’ll agree, the rest of the house if fine… my studio is a wreck. OOF!! All I want to do is procrastinate and go out for coffee every time I walk in there! ~W
There is always laundry. No matter where you go or how long you stay, there will be laundry. It’s one of those comforting rules of life.
Just don’t forget the soap π

Your definition of “comforting” needs some adjusting. Warm coffee: comforting. Cozy blanket: comforting. Mash potatoes: comforting. Laundry? ~W
Hi there! I just wanted to let you know that I think you have a lovely “voice”. You’re very talented in your writing as well as your art. And I love the shop heading you have about life being a story. It’s so true. Anyways…done babbling, I just couldn’t pass up commenting on your many talents. By the way, the queen sent me…saw her write up on you. Have a good vacation.

We had that change weeks ago and then it changed back again! Sounds like this weekend we’ll have low 60’s once again! π
Back and forth… Okay by me. Just hold off on the snow!
Have a great trip.

Autumn is my favorite season because it is never boring. Your ferny sunprints remind me of Sunday’s lattΓΒ©. Very nice, both.

Apparently, I’m on a bit of a “leaf” kick this week. But, don’t call it a meme… m’kay? π ~W
We have our fireplace on and I am wearing my sweat pants to run in. That’s how I always know it’s getting fallish. HAPPY TRIP!!

Oh…laundry bookends! Ha…that’s so true. But, there’s nothing like walking into a clean house when you come home is there? I hope you have an amazing trip!!

One can only hope we don’t come home to the same thing we came home to after the Wedding. π ~W
What about that big warm pile of laundry fresh out of the dryer? I always found that kinda comforting. =)
Anyhow, have a safe and lovely trip down south. I’m so full up on “summer” after two years there that I’m cheerfully breaking out the sweaters and wool socks. I do worry, however, that I’ll have nothing warmer to break out when WINTER hits. It’s going to be a hard one, I think, to reacclimate to.

Um… NO. Laundry has lost that loving feeling. *giggle*. Yeah, the first winters back are difficult. DOWN FILLED, darling… down filled. π ~W
I’m buried in laundry too but nothing so nice as a vacation to be prompting it.
We’re cool and lovely here too, but I think our summer is a bit longer and more miserable than yours. October makes me happy.

Yeah… summer lasts all September in PA. I never found the heat miserable, but I was in the minority. My kid walks around here on a 65 degree day saying, “Wow, it’s so WARM outside.” ~W
