Oh, January! Your lack of light is trying my patience and has me scrambling for any sunlight I can find. Much like my sunbeam seeking dog, I’ve been following the sun around the house, setting up shots in the strangest of places. This photo was snapped in my master bath! I was all excited too, thinking I’d found a new source of decent light. Smug and content, sure I’d discovered Nirvana or at least a solution, until I uploaded the photo. Cringe.
It’s not just my imagination running amok, January’s dim light has been pressing my photo editing skills to their limit too. No amount of tweaking seems to do the trick—and it’s making it hard to keep Thrifty Goodness stocked. I’m not complaining about sales, but every sale means I have to find something new to list, and listing something new means getting a few decent photos. Photos are everything on etsy and lately, the sunlight has been a black-market commodity. You see my problem? So, I edit and I tweak and I set up shots in strange places, hoping for a miracle in the rain.
Rain, rain, rain. That leaves a girl little choice but to pilfer her sweetie’s stash of tea, specifically his tin of Paris tea. Goodbye Vanilla Comoro, so long Chocolate Vitale. I drank it all. I had to; it’s dreary these days. And about the only way to deal with the constant drizzle is to be fully armed with a cuppa of something hot and fragrant. A girl needs to drown her misery some how.
This tin is nearly empty, too. Poor guy. If he was smart he’d hide his stash. I bought him this tea for Christmas and then I promptly drank it. Clearly, I’ll need to be replacing his tea and mine (don’t feel too sorry for him, his favorite tea is green tea and he has a year’s supply of that! Of course, I won’t touch the stuff, which is why he has a year’s supply of it.) and I would love a few suggestions on how to banish the rain. If you have a tea you adore, leave me a comment. I’m looking for other sources of liquid sunshine.
gotcha covered. Send your address again. I have a favorite tea that just tastes like sunshine- I’ll send you the packet I have here in Florida and if you like it I can replenish the first of March when I make a quick trip back to Chicago for snake handling certification. (Don’t laugh.)
It’s a very nice tin- and the picture is good, too- so just finish his tea and sell the can on Thrifty Goodness.

Ah, sadly, I’ve moved Thrifty Goodness over to etsy–and I can only sell items that are truly vintage. 😀 I’d send you email, but my email always ends up in a parallel universe when I email you. 😀 ~W
Paris is soooo good. Although it gets dark and dreary too. I wish there was a Montecito blend. 😉
Here’s to a warmer, brighter month… whenever that may be…

It’s wet, isn’t it? I tell you what, I’ve learned my lesson. I WILL NOT let sunlight go to waste this summer! As for Montecito… that would be fun, you know. To dream up a blend of tea that reminds you of Montecito. I’d be interested to know. ~W
Watch the sky! The days are getting longer, I swear it!

If I watch the sky, I’ll drown. It’s raining that hard. ~W
I like Teavana’s Mrs.Earl Grey… Earl Grey plus orange and cinnamon bits.
I am cheap and cheerful Celestial Seansonings Apple Cranberry Zinger. Good with the last of the biscotti.

Ooh, a spicy Earl Grey sounds yummy. Thanks for the tip! 😀 ~W
Ha! It rained here the other day and the snow is pretty much all gone. We had feet of snow. Darn. People were complaining about the rain. “I don’t mind the rain”, I’d say, “I’m from Washington State”. BUT, this isn’t Washington. If I have to live this far away from my beloved PNW, I WANT SNOW! The weatherman has predicted 1-2 inches tonight and tomorrow. That will make me happy. I’m sorry you’re missing the sun. I can do without it.
Tea, hmmm, I can’t help you with that, but when I come back out and FINALLY get to see you face to face, we can have some tea or maybe a Dr. Pepper together. 🙂

Meh, Dr. Pepper. You know as a kid I loved the stuff. But now, I just can’t drink it! : D~W
Oh, by the way, if you go to my blog, close your eyes and scroll down a little first. There is a picture of a squirrel on there. I just wanted to warn you! 🙂

Oh joy. Vermin. 😀 ~W
No tea for me. I only liked it while I was pregnant, which is weird. I know lots of people who drink green tea(very healthy) but not too many who actually like it. Way to go, IZ!

I flip flop. Burn out on coffee and then burn out on tea. Lately, coffee has just tasted “off”–so I’ve been drinking tea. It will pass, I’m sure. 😀 Lord help us if I get on a hot chocolate kick. 😀 ~W
I do so wish you could box up some of that rain and send it our way…we’re in a drought, and almost every day here is like Groundhog Day (the movie, not the holiday) We did get snow a little while back, and that’s still on the mountains and hills…which is nice…but, I love rain. I also love Sleepy Time tea…or my all time favorite standby peppermint…I’m with IZ, green tea is delicious and so is Yerba Matte…both good for you as well!

Droughts are no fun. Neither is a deluge. I’m sorry it’s so dry right now. I’d happily send rain if I could. ~W
I actually like your photo very much! To me it looks like an old 50s catalogue, very bright and cheery, like it should be Mother’s Day or something!
As to tea, I LOVE tea – and I LOVE H&S Paris. good choice! I also vote for:
Twining’s Lady Grey (Earl Grey with a twist, very lovely)
Market Spice tea from Seattle’s Pike Place Market (or just get Good Earth Original tea – it’s the same flavour!),
World Spice (www.worldspice.com, also at the Market) sells one of my favorite lapsang blends ever, called “Northwest Tea Time.” Developed just for these cold blustery PacNW afternoons, it is very smoky and rich.
I am also a big fan of the Tao of Tea (www.taooftea.com) and Serendipitea (www.serendipitea.com) for their Ruby Sipper (one can’t drink black tea ALL day!) and their Black Velvet.

Sarah, thanks for the comment and the great tea links. I’m a little obsessed with Santa Barbara these days, so I’ll be checking in on your site. Oh… and your sewing is amazing. 😀 (I sent email, but it probably went to spam.) ~W
