The calendar says Spring is still 15 days away. But the calendar doesn’t account for the constant din of lawnmowers you can hear on my street nor the blankets of Spring bulbs pushing up to say, “Hello!” in my neighbors’ yards. I don’t know about you; but for me, Spring begins when I find myself fighting the urge to go outside and putter in my much neglected yard. She sings, Spring does, in a way that is ever so hard to resist.
Sadly, despite the blue skies after a month of gloomy Mondays, I found myself inside attempting to get Thrifty Goodness business done. Between gentle reminders to the boy to keep at his schoolwork, I juggled photographs and laundry and email. M/W/F are my days to “teach” and it’s hard to focus on much else on those days. However, I did manage to take a bunch of new photos for the shop, only to have iphoto crash during the upload. Oh well, tomorrow.
However, the real harbinger of Spring at Chez Wonder is our ability to settle on our porch and take in the view during an afternoon coffee break. This is precisely why I’ll advocate (and I have a certain ground hog to back me up!) for an early Spring arrival. Iz and I sat and chatted over his perfect mochas this afternoon and took in our view. A view, we’ve been told, which might not be there much longer. The owner of the empty plot of land is threatening to develop. . .as progress seems to go. And, who can blame him (ME!! No Christmas Cookies for you, view stealing neighbor!!) for wanting to take advantage of this sight.
Fortunately, our home is blessed with more than one view and our upstairs sightlines will still be intact. All the more reason to hang out in the sewing room, I guess! Until then, we are marveling at the beauty of our little Astoria home. And trying really hard not to notice that our yard is crying for our attention. Sip, sip.
I will swap your winter for my summer. :*) its suppose to be autumn already here in Australia but today our temp soared up to 42 C = 108 F !!!! eeeekkk….

Oh, I start to wilt at 112. . . but anything under is just heaven. Especially when it was nothing but hail and rain last week. 😀
It’s gone all buddish around here too.
Hey…our local news had a story about how your wee town is breaking up into pieces. Have you noticed that?

Breaking up how?? Do send me the info… if you can, please. I’ve heard nothing of the sort. (but I don’t pay attention to much talk around town unless it’s snow talk!) ~W
I love your view, and would hate to have to go upstairs to see it! You have a beautiful town. It was very spring like here today. It ALMOST made me want to go out and weed/mow, but I restrained myself.

Me too… but, if it happens, it happens. We’ll find other ways of enjoying our little space. I’m obviously prone to peer pressure. . . my neighbors are out in full force and I’m feeling a wee bit sheepish about not doing anything out there. But, sadly, there are other things pressing. My hope is to get the front walkway done sometime this week so at least that’s not a huge eyesore. And YES, if my neighbors put up yard gnomes and windmills I’d probably feel the pressure to follow suit! 😀 ~W
I especially love that first photo with the house all blurry in the background. When you look at our house with a blur – it looks *so* much better! LOL.

It’s certainly true of our yard, eh~W
I love the flowers, and I LOVE the view. I have an idea. Let’s get all our friends to pitch in money and we’ll buy the lot and make it into a little park, then you won’t lose your view! 🙂 I hope to have a view of the ocean from my little cottage in Cannon Beach someday.

I’d love for that to be a little park! It kinda functions as one on the 4th of July and at Regatta… it’s where the neighborhood gathers to watch the fireworks! I adore Cannon Beach, but I have to admit, I prefer Gearhart because it’s quieter! ~W
Oh, and Spring has to wait a little longer here. We have about 4 feet of snow in our yard! 🙂

True… I should probably modify my declaration to “Spring is here in the NW). ~W
Lovely photos. It’s not climbing out the 20’s here today 🙂 We had a 60 degree weekend though and we’re able to sneak to the park though so I’m not complaining.
Your view is amazing.

It is for now! I hope it stays, but my heart tells me that the man will build. Oh well. And we’ve got another sunny day, but rumor has it rain is right around the corner. ~W
I’ll trade you my fabric for your view! You have one of THE best views on the planet. I shouldn’t say that too loud or the fine folks downtown will jack up your taxes with with that secret little “view tax” of theirs. Oh, I know… we can just add another two stories to our house. That’ll get us a view like yours. Sigh. The tree house will have to do for now.
I’m curious too what Karan’s talking about!

Oh, I think Karan is referring to our ever-present slide zones. You know, the ones we avoid buying houses in! 😀 ~W
The pictures are fab! I love spring bulbs breaking through the drab ground. And your view of the water is AMAZING! Lucky you! If I had that view from my sewing machine nothing would get sewn.

Well, not much work is getting done these days. ~W
Wende ~ I love the view. I have always wanted to live out that way. However, instead … I live exactly opposite of you in Northern Maine. Funny how we often end up in the opposite direction than we intended 🙂
Anyway, I am curious to know if you homeschool (your post says something about schooling). We intend to homeschool Isaac – so am curious.
I also look forward to seeing some prices on your thrifted pieces. Very exciting 🙂
Love,
Jodi

Hey Jodi, our boy is in an online charter school… which is a half way step between homechooling and a brick and mortar school. As for the thrifted pieces… I don’t know when the store will be live, as that part is out of my hands for the moment… but if there is anything your interested in, let me know! ~W
P.S. Though we did not “start” our winter till mid January (climate change, I guess), we here in Maine are now experiencing a cold snap that is threatening the lives of my chickens. It is bitter cold! And I am so jealous of the weather elsewhere. I want to say…”Keep up with the lovely spring photos” but I really feel like saying …”Humbug …keep your joyous spring talk to yourselves!” (But I am a kind & loving person … so am only joking about that humbug stuff :p )
Love,
Jodi

Heh… well, you’ll probably get a real summer and a real fall where you are. We’ll try not to begrudge you that when it’s non-stop drizzle in the summer here! 😀 ~W
If only he would build an underground house with a park on top…*sigh*

Ah, good idea. You should suggest that to him! 😀 ~W
I’m so happy that you included a direct link to your blog in your comments on mine! I had no idea how to find you out here in the blogosphere. Your blog is beautiful – gorgeous photos, layout, and lovely text. So glad to have found you here! I’l be back…

Ah yes, the new and improved blogger won’t link urls that aren’t blogspot. :D And, to add insult in injury, because I don’t have an updated blogspot with the new blogger, I can’t make my profile public either. Heh… they’ve thought of everything! :D I’m glad you dropped by and thanks so much for the comment. :D (can’t wait to see my earrings!!) ~W
Gee, I’m not sure I would do much either, in terms of yard work, when I could have a mocha, hang with my babe, and enjoy a the view like that! Beautiful photos 🙂
Yup, tomorrow is another day. Good luck with all the photos. It sure is time consuming, but in the end, well worth it.

Well, the yard is much like a three year old with radar… it senses when I’m just about done with my mocha and then starts pestering me for attention! 😀 ~W
I am asking myself the same question. It has been in the 20’s at night, but getting up to 70 during the day. The daytime is super-nice! We are seeing little flowers popping up that somehow survive the freezes.
___________________________________
Oof, that’s a temperature drop! I think I might throw a party when we get our first 70s. Although, even in summer those days can be rare! We get excited about 60s in these parts. ~W
Buds and flowers and a great view- I knew I must be missing good things over here. This weekend, back in Chicago, I saw many of the daffodils I planted last fall up about four inches- and frozen in place. I think they came up during an unusually warm patch in January and now what? We shall see.

Oh, that would be sad… poor, cold daffodils. How much do you love those flowers?? And I appreciate the restraint over your glorious weather in Florida. How do you stay healthy flying so much?? ~W
