It’s
kinda hard NOT to like this town. The holiday is another matter.
Astoria is lit up, decorated, and dressed to the hilt. And you
would think I would resent all their cheeriness. All their
glee. All their good wishing. Darn it–I don’t. It’s
all just so dang infectious that I found myself exclaiming tonight as
we walked home, "We live in the Best town in the Whole World."
Now
I know better. But you try resisting all this good will and cheer
when your local fire department makes it a point to tour every
neighborhood–lit up like the fires they usually put out, blasting Christmas
carols, handing out candy, all with a Lovely Santa wishing you a "Merry
Christmas" over his loud speaker. Yeah… TO YOU. He said,
"Merry Christmas!" to you–and he looked you right in the eye and he
meant it. And you know it’s just some guy in a suit–but
really–was it?
I wish I had better pictures to prove my
point–but this sort of behavior would make a believer out of the
scroogiest of us. And… well… yeah, sometimes that’s me.
But tonight, tonight I do live in the best town in the whole
world. And these are my warm and fuzzy pictures to prove it.
